Direction Selections in Life
November 20, 2009
How many times have you wished that you had a personalized instruction manual for your life? A detailed guide that told you things like which college to go to, when and who to marry, or which career is best for you. Of course, every guide would be unique to the individual and we wouldn’t fret over the decision to be a full time stay at home parent because the guide said to. The idea might appeal to some, but even with all the high speed technology we have today, high speed life decisions are yet to be laid before our earthly eyes.
Decision making comes in all sizes. Some of the effects are large and others tiny. KC’s coffee selection has a little effect on the rest of us (unless he doubles up on the espresso shots, right?), but KC’s decision to accept a job offer away from the Ozarks touches us all. Our mornings with KC are limited but not without emotion. Of course we will all miss KC’s crazy stories, heartfelt prayer, and devotions to the love of his life, Jessica. However, we can’t help but cheer Mr. and Mrs. Wright for following their hearts and prayers to be on the proper path that God has put before them.
Putting fear aside and stepping onto a new path is brave. It’s brave because we don’t have that detailed manual that promises it to be a perfect step in the right direction. We can only put faith forward and fearlessly fight for finding our footing by God’s will. When we are taken out of our comfort zone we grow. We grow as spiritually, personally, and on levels that we might not soon realize.
The one thing that certainly does help someone embarking on a new journey is support and love. KC, you don’t probably realize how much love and support that you have from all of us that are impacted by your decision. Good luck and don’t forget your family in the Ozarks, 88.3 The Wind. Best wishes mentor buddy, Trina
The Power of Giving
October 19, 2009
Last Friday I stopped by the station to get an update about all the exciting things on the 88.3 The Wind calendar. Chalmer was buried in work as normal. This guy is a great speaker on air but get him distracted with all his work and I’m lucky to hear a complete sentence from his mouth! Ha, all in good fun because I truly enjoy my visits to the station.
Kathleen is pecking away at her computer and manages to remain mellow in spite of all the scheduling and events that seem to keep her on her toes. She offers a light-hearted joke while they discuss more tasks to be dealt with. These tasks are all a part of pulling together the concerts and other charitable events that make 88.3 The Wind the generous station that it strives to be. Not only do I get to be a part of this, so do you!
When 88.3 The Wind is able to bring together a free concert, like the one this Tuesday featuring Mikeschair, it becomes more than just music. It becomes a giving event. Mikeschair is going to give all the canned goods that you donate when you come to the concert to the Springfield Victory Mission. I just think that it’s a neat way to get everyone involved with sharing and giving. (Check out Mikeschair’s website: www.mikeschair.com They’re the guys who sing, Can’t Take Away and Let The Waters Rise.)
Another way that I’ve observed giving - not only from 88.3 The Wind, but from you – by the stories you tell. It isn’t always easy to share a personal piece of your life with the world; but when you do, you give other people hope and faith too. There is an opportunity for you to share a story from now until the end of the month. Tell 88.3 The Wind “What Faith Can Do” and every finalist will receive a Kutless CD and the grand winner will get an espresso machine. It’s a fun way to share your faith and inspire faith in other people too.
Chalmer sent me home with a list of dates and events that I will be Tweeting and posting on Facebook, so please stay in touch. I’m enjoying getting to know you and I hope to meet more of you as I continue to write, learn this radio stuff, and grow while giving right along with you. Together we’re way more encouraging, inspiring, and uplifting than we are alone. -trvw
See the Signs to Give
September 28, 2009

Somebody at the station is always getting something. KC has received a coffee delivery a few times now, and Chalmer is either getting a plaque or coffee treat too. This morning he was gifted with a giant, red gummy bear so I can’t imagine what is next! Gifts are special. They are special because someone took time to think about you and give you something that you enjoy or need.
I remember one day how a perfect stranger treated me to a gift. I was in line at the grocery store struggling for my wallet as a young woman turned around and paid the cashier right before I could even make sense of what was happening. She just wanted to do something nice! It was such a kind gesture that I definitely paid it forward.
The idea of passing along a random act of kindness is not new, it’s something that is really fun to do. Paying it forward and random kindness is similar to the God Pocket’s that you might have already heard about. God Pockets are filled with money that you set aside so you can give a random kind act, or miracle, to someone when you see the need. Multnomah Books is going to fund 10 God Pockets with $100 gift cards. Find out more at 88.3TheWind.com and listen every morning with KC at 7:10 am to find out how the next God Pocket is being filled.
The giving will keep going after the God Pockets are filled with the Harvest of Clothing for the Springfield Victory Mission, and the Drive Thru Difference coming in October. Details for both will be on the way! I hope you find a way to give a miracle today. It doesn’t have to be big or expensive. It might be as simple as letting a person in a rush go ahead of you at the register, or offering extra change to somebody counting out their pennies to pay for gas. Opportunities are everywhere, simply take the time to open your eyes and you will see many chances to make a miracle. They’re hard not to notice – kind of like a big, red sign…or gummy bear. -trvw
“You Were Born For This” -Bruce Wilkinson
September 16, 2009

It was a fun morning in the 88.3 The Wind studio this morning. KC was excited about his new health and fitness routine, Chalmer was congested and wading through extra paperwork, and Ms. Sue was in a state of panic because one of her boys turns 16 tomorrow. The fun kicked in when Chalmer received a huge, well wrapped package.
KC and I generously offered giggles while we watched Chalmer attempt to unwrap the package with excitement and speed. The tape did a remarkable job of halting both the excitement and speed which only heightened everyone’s anticipation. Finally, a shiny record from tobyMac rested in within Chalmer’s hands.
tobyMac’s gift was to be hung on the wall immediately. After a few holes where in the wall and some rather imprecise measurements were made with a few makeshift tools, the plaque was properly in place. Sue was slightly disappointed at its final placement, but I just don’t think anyone could see it propped in a chair next to her work station.
After we hung the gift form the tobyMac, (I learned that artist’s send these plaques as an appreciation for playing their music – music that you help select via the Music Advisory Panel) Chalmer and I talked about books and concerts; books about radio and books about miracles, concerts of past and concerts in the future.
Bruce Wilkenson is the author of the book about miracles. “You Were Born For This” is his newest book and “The Prayer of Jabez “with David Kopp was a recent New York Times #1 Bestseller. He writes to teach ways to see the miracles in everyday life. Bruce will be speaking and signing books at CPO this Friday from 4-6pm. I borrowed a copy of his book because I like to read about ways to open my eyes to the miracles that I might not be seeing. Bruce explains that we encounter divine moments everyday and how we can deliver miracles to others in need. Advise about direction in life? Yep, that’s always useful.
Our concert conversation was about how Aaron Shust , and Chris Sligh will be at CBC on October 24th. Aaron is the guy who sings, “My Savior, My God” and Chris is a former American Idol Finalist. Music is amazing with how it speaks to people. Songs deliver a personal message that we can all understand.
Again, my visit “Inside The Wind” was fun filled with mentoring for me and information about family friendly, cost effective events that I can share with you. Every time I step foot into the station I learn more ways that the 88.3 The Wind family can be better for you. Better music, better inspiration and hope, and more encouraging words that help me believe that I was born for this. -trvw
Summer Sharathon
August 13, 2009
Hear more about Sharathon: PleaseSharathon
I see how happiness reigns at 88.3 The Wind. We get to do work that makes other people happy every single day. We get to bring you inspiring music, encouraging words on Facebook and Twitter, and connect to you through our blogs. It’s wonderful to be a part of a circle of positive energy.
With summer winding down, it’s that time of year when everyone seems to be in a transition phase. Even if you aren’t headed back to class, you can probably relate to the routine shift that tends to take place around this time. Friends are visiting, families are going on vacations, and co-workers are covering one another’s duties while the other is out for fun. It can zap your positive energy, but 88.3 The Wind is always nearby to recharge you in times of change.
A change of pace can be good for the soul. It’s a chance for something neat to happen. As they saying goes, “you grow when you are out of your comfort zone.” 88.3 The Wind will be changing its routine this month. At the end of August we will set time aside to raise funds for Sharathon.
Sharathon is when generous people contribute funds to help keep this station, a ministry, going. 88.3 The Wind is a non-profit organization, so financial support is dependent on sharing people like you. While the truth is that the station needs to ask for people to give, the deeper truth is that is hard to ask for people to give.
Nobody can do everything on their own, and there are appropriate times for humility. The circle of positive energy always comes back around if you PUSH* it along. I really hope that this Sharathon is extremely successful so we can all keep making each other happy in a more powerful, revolutionary way. Please give 88.3 The Wind a PUSH. Break Time
July 31, 2009
Please Click and Listen to Take A Break.
The words “break time” send an adrenaline rush through the veins of an adult the same way the word “recess” does for a school kid with spring fever. A break means an opportunity to change up a routine. If you don’t take a break once and awhile from a standard schedule then even a pleasant job can become mundane.
This past week has offered a chance for me to witness people enjoying a break. The 88.3 The Wind Pastors Open was last Friday. Area pastors got the chance to break away from their regular routines and collaborate for a fun day on the golf course. Everyone involved with making the day happen was appreciative and thrilled to enjoy a day full of sunshine.
Then on Tuesday, a local family got a big break. The Hampton’s got to move into their new house courtesy of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”. They were very thankful for the blessing as they were worried a few weeks ago about their situation.
It’s amazing to watch people come together who want to give someone else a break. The folks that pulled together for the golf tournament and the people that volunteered to build a house in a week all have a common goal. They were willing to do a little bit extra work so someone else could do a little less work for a change.
Everyone deserves a breather. When people work together it makes it easier to share responsibilities and therefore give more breaks more often – to more people! It is inspiring to watch you, the Ozarks community pull together in such selfless ways and give a person a well deserved break. -trvw
Network of Friends
July 14, 2009

Chalmer Harper and KC Wright holding a plaque presented to 88.3 The Wind for sharing NEEDTOBREATHE's Music with the Ozarks.
“An honest answer is the sign of true friendship.”
- Proverbs 24:26
I read this verse and liked it for two reasons. The first is because honesty can be difficult to receive and to give, but it is vital in a good friendship. The second reason I liked it is because it can be applied to the self. People forget how necessary it is to be a friend to ourselves.
A friend is someone who shares interests with you, someone who will pray for you, and someone who will always be honest with you. These are characteristics that you would look for in a friend and they are characteristics that you would want to offer a good friend. That being said, you should like yourself and treat yourself as nice as you would a friend.
Being a friend means being honest, kind, and forgiving. When our friends hurt us we forgive, if they need to be uplifted we encourage, or if they need guidance we offer honesty and prayer. If you are able to give that to another person, you must be willing to give that to yourself.
You like your friends because you both have things in common – therefore there must be a few things that you like about yourself! It’s not always easy to take time to be nice to our self. However, we must treat our own souls with the kindness that God gave us and that He wants us to give to our friends.
At 88.3 The Wind, I see more than people that work together. I see a network of friends. They work hard to create an inspiring, uplifting union. Their endeavors are beyond encouraging music, but an encouraging network of friends that includes me and you.
88.3 The Wind is excited about bringing you family concerts, pastor golf tournaments, and stronger signal strength so you can hear Clean Air in buildings that you couldn’t before. We are happy to be your Facebook friend and Tweet you uplifting quotes through the day. I am thrilled to write to you about seeing a network of friends from Inside 88.3 The Wind, honestly. -trvw

Simple Summer
July 9, 2009

I wasn’t sure what to expect. Crowds aren’t really my thing. However, I was very curious - and the upbeat, positive hype certainly had my attention. In spite of the sky’s threat of rain I grabbed my jacket and headed out to I Love America.
Wow, all of the volunteers pulled together and put on a very nice event. The parking attendants were friendly – everyone was friendly and cheerful. It was great to see smiling faces and happy families enjoying the day. Kids and adults lined up to spin the prize wheel at the 88.3 The Wind tent. Fans complimented KC’s morning show and his wife chuckled at the fuss. (Insider note: KC and his wife Jessica are a hoot together – very cute!)
Most of all a big thank you goes out to everyone that attended and volunteered to make I Love America such a success. Events like this make great summer memories. Awesome summers are about spending time with people who engrave great memories into our hearts. Trying new things and having a good time can be simple – it’s the positive vibrations that make the great memory.
Just because I Love America is over doesn’t mean that summer is – keep an eye on Facebook and Twitter for chances to win prizes from Cold Stone Creamery, Springfield Skateland or Blockbuster video. Have a simple summer. -trvw
It’s All About You
July 9, 2009
To wake up and spend the day doing something meaningful and fun is a blessing. If that also happens to pay the bills then it’s a big blessing! Sometimes the best way to make you happy is by blessing other people (please see “And The Winner Is…”). While we are here on Earth, we learn that there can be trade-offs in life as a means to achieve happiness.
If you are a new reader, let me catch you up to speed. As I explained in my first post “Trina: The Wind Insider” I am seeking a new career path because my former career left me longing for more. I had to make some serious decisions, like whether or not to stay with the job I had, go back to school, or try something new. “New” meant trying to find a career that let me be creative and hope to make a positive difference in people’s lives. My trade off – leaving a nice paying job for a super-fun volunteer-intern gig! I’m loving it.
I get to work with nice, knowledgeable people who appreciate me; and I get to use my creative skills (which they refer to as “gifts” and that makes me feel great!). Now, as a “new media” person here at 88.3 The Wind I get to learn a lot of things. Some of those things that I get to learn I can pass on to you!
Some of the scoop from inside 88.3 The Wind is that there will be a listener appreciation concert in October. This concert will be $10.00 at the door. Another rumor is that there is a FREE Family Concert in the works. I will keep my ears open for additional details because the thought of helping bring together a concert that 88.3 The Wind gives away makes me happy.
That’s not all. I have also been making phones calls and writing e-mails searching for giveaway prizes. Yummy places like Cold Stone Creamery, fun places like Skateland and Blockbuster have been generous enough to donate a freebie that I get to share with YOU…and that makes ME happy too. Stay tuned to Twitter and Facebook for ways to win! -trvw
And The Winner Is…
July 1, 2009
Happiness and gratitude are much like positive attitudes – they spread! While US Savings Bonds can’t be given every day, other forms of goodness can. A simple smile or nice gesture can lift a person’s spirits. Taking time to share in other people’s joy can bring personal joy too. That was proven Tuesday morning as listeners of 88.3 The Wind shared Misty’s excitement as a winner.
Many of you listened as KC, and members from the Ozarks Credit Union, called the winner at 8:36 AM Tuesday morning. Attendees of the Stimulus seminars were eligible for the $4000.00 Savings Bonds giveaway that took place today. A woman answered the phone and was both surprised and in disbelief to hear that she had won.
Misty Kimball-Williams from Battlefield, MO was appreciative as well as deserving of the savings bonds. She was thankful and wrote of her gratitude on the Facebook fan page, “God always provides for our needs in his time, being patient and waiting for His time to become our time, (the answer to our prayers), is well worth the wait as it can be more than we were praying for. Thank you Ozarks Credit Union and 88.3 for being God’s answers to our desperate cries for help. God Bless You!”
It would have been great to be able to give a savings bond away to everyone; however, it’s neat that the Ozarks Credit Union held a contest that resulted in uplifting not only the winner but the listeners too. Congratulations and thanks Misty! -trvw
